Staying at Student Accommodation – Your Guide to Moving In

It can be stress-eliciting to move into a student accommodation for the first time – especially when you have just moved abroad! Everything probably feels new to you: the environment, language, people, your housing… So it is easy to feel left out in the cold.

I prepared this blog for you to have some useful tips I wish I knew before I moved into a Chapter building for a long-term stay in London.

1) Day of Arrival

When you first arrive, you will probably see lots of other students in the same boat as you: everyone with multiple luggage and boxes.

- At 3 pm, go to the front desk and tell a staff member you are checking in. This is the usual check-in time for new residents.

- You give your passport to the front desk and show your booking confirmation email from GoBritanya.

- The front desk team will give you your room key and you can start unpacking!

Pro-tip: If you have too much luggage, ask where the box trolleys are to help carry your items upstairs.

2) Home Appliances

It is normal that you couldn't bring everything you need. It might be helpful to rent home appliances from your accommodation.

Each Chapter building has a TULU box, usually located in a common area.

TULU is an app you can download (Google Play / App Store) which allows you to rent items like: vacuum, printer, air mattress, or even a Dyson hair dryer!

- Monthly subscription: £12/month

- Semester option: £6 total

Of course, TULU is optional — it's just there to help!

3) Delivery and Parcels

No parcels are accepted at the reception.

Chapter uses a reliable parcel system called MyPup.

- Download the MyPup app and register with your accommodation details.

- You will be assigned a name and delivery address inside the app.

- Use this name + address when ordering online.

- Parcels go to a central MyPup location and will be delivered to you, usually the same day.

4) Food Delivery

Use any platform to order food:

- Uber Eats
- Deliveroo
- Just Eat

Use your actual accommodation address for food/grocery delivery.

You will need to go downstairs to collect your order unless your building has Food Delivery Lockers.

If lockers are available:

- Add delivery instructions telling the driver to deliver to the lobby.

- Include your room number.

- The driver will place your food in a locker.

- You will receive a one-time PIN to collect it.

Pro-tip: Try the app TooGoodToGo to get leftover food at a huge discount.
Blank Street surprise bags are always amazing!

5) Everything You Need Is in One App

Download the My Chapter App — it's essential.

- Register with your email and accommodation details.

- Submit guest check-ins.

- Rent a guest bed.

- Submit maintenance requests (response within ~48 hours).

6) Gym and Common Areas

If your building has a gym, rooftop, lounge, or study room — you can use them anytime for free.

Friends can visit too, but outdoor areas may close at certain times.

Pro-tip: UNiDAYS and Student Beans offer discounted gym memberships. No-joining-fee deals are common!

7) Socialisation

Every Chapter building shares monthly event posters in hallways and elevators.

Events include:

- Sip & Paint
- Yoga sessions
- Welcome parties
- Diwali celebrations
- Black History Month events
- And so much more!

They are all **free** for residents.

Join these events to socialise, make friends, and feel part of the community.
